Pilgrims to Amarnath Yatra to be given RFID tags

Amarnath Yatra RFID cards

The Ministry of Home Affairs in India has asked the Jammu and Kashmir Police to use RFID to track people to the annual pilgrimage to Amaranath Yatra Temple. As from the 11th April 2022 all pilgrims will be given an RFID tag after registration which will ensure the security forces know the location of everyone at all times.

This year is expected to be a very busy year for the pilgrimage after a 2 year break due to the pandemic, therefore tracking for peoples safety is critical during the 43 day pilgrimage to the shrine in the Hymalayas.

The RFID tags in the form of cards will be issued to all pilgrims and their vehicles, and visitors will be required to scan at regular checkpoints to ensure both tracking of individuals and also regulation on the flow of people to 20,000 per day.
