The 2022 WURKZ Mountain Bike Series to use RFID

Mountain Bike Race timing using RFID

The organisers of the Cambodian WURKZ Mountain bike series have announced that they will use RFID technology to track riders, guaranteeing accuracy and ensuring fairness in all races in the series.

The series will start next month in early may and will last until December, each stage will use the new technology.

During a briefing on April 23rd at the Sen Sok Mall in Phnom Penh, the Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodia Cycling Federation, Pierre Yves Carry announced that they will introduce radio frequency identification technology to race timing systems. These RFID tags will be attached to the wheel and automatically transmit the results of the timings to a computer system.

The advantage of such a system over the existing technologies is that it is fast and accurate. Indeed the results can be posted in real time as they happen.

This event has contributed greatly to the development and growth of the mountain bike sport in Cambodia, It also provides the opportunity for our athletes to train for both national and international competitions.

Such technology is regularly used in race timings including motor racing, cycling and also athletics.
